Risk of diesel price hikes after the end of tax cuts
The government has confirmed there will be no extension of the diesel tax cuts effective from October 28. As of today, an increase in diesel prices is anticipated.
The government has decided not to extend the tax cuts on diesel, a measure introduced on October 28 and set to expire on November 7. Starting today, November 8, the price of diesel could increase by approximately 4.9 cents per liter, as reported by various sources.
According to Sky TG24, the correlation between the expiry of the measure and a potential increase in fuel costs is evident, as no further extension has been published in the Official Gazette.
Rai News has confirmed that the last extension was from October 28 until today, with no signs of renewal. This has led to forecasts of increases in pump prices.
According to HDblog, the lack of an extension of the tax rebate is directly linked to the increase in diesel prices, with an estimated rise translating to €2.44 for a full tank of 50 liters.
Furthermore, as highlighted by the Mimit Price Observatory, fuel prices have remained stable despite the expiry of the tax cuts, with diesel currently priced at €2.23 per liter and petrol at €2.
This situation could have significant repercussions on the cost of living, especially for consumers and transporters, but the government continues to implement other economic measures, such as the utility bills decree.
