Authorities in New Delhi have increased security measures in anticipation of a rally organized by the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The event is part of ongoing protests calling for the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, due to concerns over recent revisions to the voter list that critics claim favor the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On Friday, October 16, the rally is expected to draw large crowds, as supporters of the CJP and various opposition groups focus on demands for electoral reform. This follows the detention of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and other leaders earlier in the week while they were participating in protests at a designated site in the capital.

According to reports, police detained Dipke while he was preparing for the upcoming demonstration. Live footage shared by supporters showed the detention, underscoring tensions surrounding the growing movement. The CJP has been involved in nearly daily demonstrations throughout October as they seek to raise awareness about their cause.

Participants have expressed their dissatisfaction with the electoral process and the implications of the recent changes to the voter list, which they argue could benefit the BJP in future elections. The movement has garnered attention not only from political circles but also from student organizations that have joined forces with the CJP in these calls for reform.

Despite the heightened police presence and recent detentions, the CJP and its supporters remain committed to their protests. They are expected to gather in central Delhi, waving national flags and voicing their demands for accountability from election officials. This demonstration marks a continuation of their efforts to challenge what they view as an unjust electoral system.

The situation in New Delhi remains fluid as the demonstration approaches, with security forces on standby to manage any potential unrest. The response of authorities to the rally and the participation of protesters will be closely monitored.
