Senator Loren Legarda has requested an extension of her medical leave abroad, which is now set to last until August 19. The extension is noted in a letter sent to the Senate secretariat, as confirmed by Senate Secretary Renato Bantug.

Legarda's medical leave was originally from August 11 to 12 but has since been extended. The continued leave coincides with an ongoing investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman into alleged irregularities in solar projects involving her and her son, Leandro Leviste, who serves as a representative from Batangas.

The Office of the Ombudsman has characterized Legarda's repeated medical leave extensions as "quite suspicious," which has raised questions regarding the timing of her absences. Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano mentioned that the agency is monitoring the situation closely.

In response, Legarda has rejected the Ombudsman's characterization of her situation, asserting that her leave requests comply with Senate regulations. She defended her actions by stating that unfounded accusations should not be levied against her or anyone else in similar circumstances.

The investigation centers on allegations of plunder and graft against both Legarda and Leviste, contributing to scrutiny of their recent activities and absence from legislative duties.
