The southwest monsoon, commonly referred to as 'habagat', is set to impact various regions in Luzon and the Visayas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). As of the latest weather updates, the monsoon is expected to continue affecting these areas with rainfall starting from Monday and persisting through Thursday, September 10.

In a weather advisory issued at 5 a.m. on Monday, Pagasa meteorologist Aldzcar Aurelio noted that the rain brought by the monsoon would not only affect coastal areas but would extend to more inland regions in the coming days.

The forecast suggests that rainfall amounts could range from 100 to 200 millimeters in certain locations. This forecast aligns with reports issued by the state weather bureau which have highlighted the monsoon's influence across the country, indicating a trend of increased precipitation in recent days.

Areas in Central and Southern Luzon, particularly provinces like Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, and Tarlac, have been placed under heavy rainfall warnings for Wednesday afternoon. Weather specialists anticipate conditions that may lead to localized flooding, prompting advisories for residents in vulnerable areas.

The ongoing rains are attributed to not only the 'habagat' but also the trough of Tropical Cyclone Krovanh, which is situated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). This additional weather system is expected to exacerbate the rainfall effects in Luzon and parts of the Visayas during the week.

As the week progresses, Pagasa advises that conditions may start to weaken by Friday, September 11, when the monsoon's intensity is expected to decrease across affected regions. This forecast underscores the need for continued monitoring of weather developments in light of potential flooding and other adverse conditions during the rainy days ahead.
