Students block two Lisbon schools in protest
Pupils occupied the entrances of Escola Artística António Arroio and Escola Secundária de Camões to demand action on housing and education.

On Friday morning, students blocked access to two schools in Lisbon: Escola Artística António Arroio and Escola Secundária de Camões. The protest disrupted normal classes at both institutions.
The blockade was organised by the movements Chumbado.PT and Estudantes pelo Fim ao Fóssil, according to RTP. The students demanded better education and protested against rising cost of living and the housing crisis, which they say is destroying their future.
According to reports, the protesters' motto was 'we occupy the streets to demand housing, we will occupy the schools to demand education'. The protest sought to draw attention to housing and climate change issues, drawing inspiration from student demonstrations abroad and protest camps in Portugal.

Alongside the student protest, a political debate emerged over measures to support young people in buying homes. Miranda Sarmento contested the position of the Livre party, which he believes would mainly benefit more privileged young people. Sarmento argued that a young person buying a 200,000-euro house should not be classified as privileged.
The protest and political discussion coincide amid broader concerns among young people about access to housing and educational opportunities. According to ECO, hundreds of students took part in the school blockade.
The Liga das Ambulâncias called for understanding with respect to the protest, according to reporting by Notícias ao Minuto.
