Supermarkets in multiple European nations have reported significant disruptions to their refrigeration systems, suspected to be caused by cyberattacks. Issues with freezers and fridges have led to heightened temperatures, resulting in concerns over the loss of perishable goods.

In Ireland, 13 SuperValu stores have resolved problems linked to a suspected cyber attack that affected their refrigeration systems, returning to normal operations. The incident coincided with reports from other European countries about similar malfunctions.

Supermarket chains in Sweden, Belgium, and Luxembourg have also noted elevated fridge and freezer temperatures, which have sparked fears of a coordinated cyberattack. The Swedish Coop chain confirmed that six of its locations experienced these temperature increases.

Media reports indicate that the situation across Europe follows a similar incident in France, where a cyber attack caused substantial food spoilage and significant financial losses for retailers. This has heightened concerns among supermarket operators regarding cyber security measures.

According to several sources, the incidents have disrupted food supply chains and raised alarms over the vulnerabilities of digital systems used by the retail sector. Supermarkets in at least five countries are investigating the causes of these disruptions.

As investigations are ongoing, chains in affected areas are reportedly taking precautions to safeguard their systems and minimize further risks. No specific details have been released about potential perpetrators or the nature of the cyberattacks.
