Problems at Albert Heijn Due to Cyber Incident
Multiple distribution centers of Albert Heijn are down due to a cyberattack, leading to empty shelves in stores.

Albert Heijn is currently facing significant issues due to a suspected cyber incident at its parent company Ahold Delhaize. As a result of this incident, several distribution centers are halted, directly affecting the supply chain for supermarkets.
According to Ahold Delhaize Europe CEO Margaret Versteden-van Duijn, digital systems have been proactively shut down, causing work to come to a complete standstill in some logistics centers. Especially with fresh produce, there is a high likelihood that stores will experience empty shelves.
Many Albert Heijn stores are already showing empty shelves. Customers are experiencing confusion due to incorrect discounts still displayed on shelf tags, while self-checkout stations are also not operational. Employees have reported that they cannot even open the gate to the store.

Visitors to the apps and website of Albert Heijn, Etos, and Gall&Gall are currently unable to use digital services. It remains unclear when these systems will be operational again. The CEO confirmed that it is an online security incident but did not provide further details about the nature of the incident or possible data breaches.
There is a sense of frustration in the stores, as employees are currently unable to serve customers correctly. The situation has led to significant disruption for both staff and customers, with the possibility that issues may persist and shelves may remain empty.
Albert Heijn has seven large distribution centers in the Netherlands. The impact of the incident is such that the supply to multiple supermarkets is at risk, and there are warnings that customers may face difficulties in finding products in the near future.
