Tadej Pogacar (27) has left the Vuelta after a serious crash during the eighth stage. According to reports, the Slovenian cyclist may have lost his balance due to a stone on the road, causing him to fall over the handlebars and land hard on the asphalt.

After the fall, Pogacar was taken to the hospital in considerable pain to his collarbone and shoulder. The damage appears substantial: he has suffered a concussion, a collarbone fracture, and a fracture to his lower cervical vertebrae, as reported by De Standaard.

The consequences of this crash are severe; his participation in the upcoming World Championship is now highly uncertain. Speculation is ongoing about the exact causes of the incident, with footage suggesting that a stone may have contributed, although this might not be the only factor.

Pogacar's crash is particularly impactful for the UAE team, given his status as the reigning world champion. This marks the first time in his career that he has been forced to abandon a Grand Tour, amplifying the significance of the incident.

Teammates and other riders expressed visible concern following the crash. An observer commented on the moment of the fall: 'He was still trying to get back on his bike, and I thought he would continue.'

The Vuelta is taking place this year amid significant attention, and the incidents surrounding Pogacar are drawing added focus. The team and those involved hope for his swift recovery, but that remains to be seen.
