Thai PM Suspends Gun Licences Following School Shooting

In the wake of a tragic school shooting in Nonthaburi, Thailand, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the suspension of all gun licences. This decision came as the communities mourned the loss of the teenage shooter and his grandparents, who were cremated following the incident.

The Prime Minister ordered the interior ministry and police to cease issuing licences for the possession, purchase, or carrying of firearms. He emphasized the necessity for stricter regulations and stated that there should be 'decisive penalties' for firearms offences, responding to increasing concerns about gun violence in the country.

Anutin Charnvirakul's actions follow severe public distress after the shooting, which resulted in nine fatalities and has raised questions about gun control measures in Thailand. The Prime Minister’s directive aims to tighten the existing laws surrounding firearms.

The families of the victims, including the grandparents of the shooter, gathered for cremations amid the national outcry. Authorities are expected to discuss measures to enhance firearms regulations further as part of the government's response to this tragedy.
