TMC Seeks Supreme Court Ruling on Disqualification of Rebel MPs
TMC's Abhishek Banerjee has approached the Supreme Court for a timely resolution regarding the disqualification of 20 MPs who rebelled and joined the NCPI.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has filed a plea in the Supreme Court requesting an accelerated decision on the disqualification of 20 rebel MPs. The hearing is scheduled for August 25, according to recent reports.
The dispute stems from a split within the TMC parliamentary party, where 20 Lok Sabha MPs declared their affiliation with the Nationalist Congress Party of India (NCPI), a political group based in Tripura, and are seeking distinct recognition in the House.

In his plea, Banerjee argues that the MPs' actions constitute a voluntary resignation from party membership, thereby invoking the anti-defection law. He is urging the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to make a swift decision regarding the matter.
The Supreme Court has acknowledged the plea and issued a notice to the 20 rebel MPs, signaling the beginning of judicial proceedings to address the TMC's allegations and the MPs' claims.
