US President Donald Trump announced an agreement to deliver several hundred thousand tons of diesel from Russia following a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Trump, the deal includes more than 300,000 tons of diesel, which will be made available for the US and global markets immediately.

As part of this agreement, the US will temporarily lift sanctions against Russia. This move comes amid rising fuel prices in the US, which puts Trump under pressure in the current political climate, particularly with the upcoming congressional elections in November.

The Kremlin confirmed the conclusion of the deal and expressed a positive view of the agreement with the US. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the diesel deal sharply, pointing out that it is problematic in the context of the ongoing Russian invasion.

Additionally, several sources reported that Trump described the negotiations with Putin as

extremely successful.

Trump said the diesel should be delivered to the US by December.

The agreement has also been seen as an opportunity to improve the strategic supply situation of the US, as the diesel deliveries could cover about 14 hours of consumption. This could also impact the international fuel market.

Reactions to the agreement have varied. While some emphasize the short-term relief on fuel prices, others highlight the political dimension and the consequences for Ukraine. The deal could be viewed as a tactic to mitigate domestic discontent in the US ahead of the upcoming elections.
