U.S. President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply up to 4.8 million tons of diesel to the global market. This decision comes as Washington seeks to control fuel prices ahead of the midterm elections in November.

According to Trump's announcement, Russian diesel deliveries will include 500,000 tons starting in November and an additional 1 million tons subsequently, though the exact timeline has yet to be confirmed. The deal is seen as essential to address rising energy costs in the United States and internationally.

The Russian leader, according to sources, has committed to releasing a significant amount of diesel to alleviate the impact of rising fuel prices, a sensitive issue for Republicans and their allies.

The political fallout from the agreement was immediate, generating criticism. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the news, calling Trump's decision 'unworthy,' highlighting that such an agreement could help finance the continuation of the war in Ukraine.

In addition to Ukrainian criticism, other sources point out that the agreement could affect the oil market dynamics, as diesel prices are a key factor influencing transportation costs and, consequently, consumer prices.

The situation is further exacerbated by the current global energy market context, which has been affected by wars and supply issues. Thus, the agreement between Trump and Putin was an immediate response to concerns about energy supply and soaring fuel prices.
