U.S. President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Denmark that grants his country 'permanent control' over Greenland's security. According to Trump, this pact prevents any adversary of the United States from establishing military bases or making significant investments on the island without Washington's approval.

The announcement was made via Truth Social and confirmed by Danish authorities, who also noted that the agreement does not cede sovereignty over Greenland, which is an autonomous territory under Danish control. The signing of the agreement is scheduled for next week during the United Nations General Assembly.

Trump emphasized that this understanding allows the United States to develop a significant military presence in Greenland, which is rich in resources and strategically important in the Arctic region. He stated that an immediate process would be initiated to establish substantial military infrastructure in the area.

Furthermore, the agreement is part of an effort to block the military expansion of nations considered adversaries, such as China and Russia, in the territory. The U.S. president expressed that Washington will have the authority to veto any foreign military activity.

The pact has been described as a significant advancement in U.S.-Denmark relations, especially following months of tensions regarding the island. At the same time, this agreement is expected to be reviewed and ratified by the respective parliaments, underscoring the importance of its formal implementation.

The agreement also addresses the shared management of security over Greenland, implying a collaborative approach to defense issues between the two countries. However, there are still questions about the scope and repercussions of this agreement in the broader context of Arctic geopolitics.
