Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, will travel next week to Colombia, specifically to the city of Barranquilla. The visit is part of a broader tour that includes Ecuador and Peru, scheduled from September 8 to 10, according to reports from various sources.

During his stay in Colombia, Rubio will meet with President Abelardo de la Espriella. The agenda is expected to include discussions on economic cooperation and issues related to drug trafficking, as well as recovery efforts following the earthquake that occurred on August 10.

Infobae reports that the aim is to strengthen cooperation in security and the fight against narcoterrorism, a topic that has gained relevance in the current regional context. It is anticipated that both leaders will also address tariff issues concerning Colombian exports to the United States.

So far, neither the White House nor the State Department has officially confirmed Rubio's itinerary. However, it is known that his visit aims to solidify diplomatic and military ties between Washington and the new governments in the region.

Rubio's tour, which will also take him to Ecuador and Peru, comes at a time when Latin America is aligning with stricter security and military cooperation policies, particularly regarding the fight against drug trafficking.

The importance of these meetings is underscored for both countries, as Abelardo de la Espriella's administration seeks to establish fruitful dialogue and strengthen bilateral relations during the Secretary of State's visit.
