UN report: Highest number of civilian casualties in Ukraine since May 2022

According to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, at least 437 civilians were killed as a result of Russian attacks in July 2026. This represents the highest number of casualties among the civilian population since May 2022. Additionally, 2,610 individuals were injured during this period.

Statistics show that the number of civilian casualties in July increased by 30% compared to the previous month. In June 2026, 298 civilians were killed and 2,041 were injured. Comparing this to July 2025, when 312 civilians died and 1,482 were injured, this marks a 70% increase.

The report also highlights the specific impacts on children: in July, 17 children were killed, while 166 more children were injured. This is the highest number of casualties among minors since the conflict began.

The increase in casualty numbers is particularly linked to intensified military activities that occurred this month in various regions of Ukraine. The UN emphasizes the growing danger to the civilian population in its reports.

This rise in civilian casualties is part of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has persisted since 2022 and poses significant humanitarian as well as security challenges for the region.
