Union parliamentary group leader Frei rejects protection of sexual identity in the Constitution

Following the Islamist-inspired attack on the Berlin Christopher Street Day, Union parliamentary group leader Thorsten Frei commented on the discussion regarding the protection of sexual identity in the Constitution. Frei stated that while he understands the desire of the queer community for this symbolic step, he is against any corresponding legal changes and firmly rejected the idea of amending Article 3.

In statements made to the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe, Frei further explained that amending the Constitution would overload the fundamental law. He thus opposed demands for a legal incorporation of a prohibition on discrimination based on sexual identity.
