1,057 Personnel Awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on Independence Day 2026
Over a thousand police, fire, and correctional personnel were honored with awards on Independence Day for their exceptional service and bravery.

On Independence Day in 2026, a total of 1,057 personnel from the police, fire, and correctional services received Gallantry and Service Medals. The awards recognized exceptional courage in critical situations and notable service in their respective fields.
Among the awardees, 197 individuals came from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 51 were from Jammu and Kashmir, while 12 hailed from the northeast region. The Gallantry Medals were particularly aimed at honoring actions taken under duress in these challenging environments.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay announced he would present Police Medals to 15 officers during the celebrations. Each recipient will receive a gold medal weighing eight grams along with a cash reward of ₹25,000.
