The southwest monsoon, amplified by Tropical Depression Luis and Tropical Storm Maymay, resulted in severe flooding across most of Luzon, Philippines, over the past week. Luis made landfall in Isabela before weakening into a low-pressure area on August 3, while Maymay struck Ilocos Sur on August 6, leading to extensive destruction in the region, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

In Colombia, a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake has resulted in at least 111 fatalities. The tremors caused widespread damage in western Colombia, as reported by Al Jazeera. Details regarding the locations affected and the response efforts are still emerging.
