At a rally in Chittorgarh, Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Congress had insulted the national song Vande Mataram on Independence Day and demanded an apology from the party. Shah's remarks followed an alleged incident during the Independence Day programme at the Congress headquarters, where he claimed Sonia Gandhi requested that the song be stopped midway.

In Alwar, Rajasthan Police detained a group of college students who were planning to protest ahead of Shah’s public programme. The students were reportedly set to voice their opposition against the claims made by the Home Minister.

The BJP criticized the Congress party, asserting that it is part of a broader policy of opposing anything that is patriotic and reiterated the call for a public apology from Congress within 24 hours for the reported insult to Vande Mataram.
