Anvisa approves import of experimental drug for Lito Sousa
Anvisa has authorized the import of an experimental drug to treat Lito Sousa, diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) granted approval on Friday (4) for the import of an experimental drug to treat influencer Lito Sousa. The drug, designated ALN-6457, is still in testing phases and does not have commercial registration in Brazil.
According to reports, the authorization was granted exceptionally, as the product does not have a legal representative in the country. This process followed a procedure outside the standard flow for drug imports.
Lito Sousa was recently diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a rare and incurable neurodegenerative condition. The influencer's health status prompted the search for alternative treatments.

Anvisa emphasized the importance of ensuring access to new treatments, even those still in experimental phases, for cases deemed critical. This specific case illustrates measures that can be taken when a drug is not available in the Brazilian market.
Furthermore, the authorization represents an exception in terms of health regulation, as it involves a product that is not commercially available and is in the early stages of development.
