Assam CM Justifies Reduction of Kaziranga Eco-Sensitive Zone
Himanta Biswa Sarma states that the reduction aligns with Supreme Court guidelines and addresses settlement concerns.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) surrounding Kaziranga National Park will be reduced from the default 10 kilometers to 1 kilometer. He indicated that this decision is in accordance with guidelines set by the Supreme Court of India.
Sarma emphasized that maintaining the original 10-km ESZ could negatively impact several populated areas around the park, suggesting that the reduction will balance environmental protection with the needs of local communities.
