The Brazilian Ministry of Health has announced the inclusion of the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) in the procedure table of the Unified Health System (SUS). The announcement was made in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on Monday, the 10th.

The test will be available to asymptomatic men and women aged between 50 and 75, aiming to screen for colorectal cancer, a disease expected to result in 635,000 deaths and significant financial losses in the country by 2030, according to estimates.

The new regulation takes effect immediately after its publication, although a formal registration of the new procedure is still required.
