Due to the currently low river levels in Germany, the transport of goods by ship is severely restricted. In response, several federal states have decided to relax the driving ban for trucks on Sundays and public holidays. This measure aims to maintain industrial supply chains and avoid shortages.

The BUND has firmly opposed this step, calling the easing of the Sunday driving ban a wrong solution. The environmental organization argues that maintaining the driving ban on weekends is important to reduce traffic congestion and protect the environment.

The industry, on the other hand, is pleased with the decision made by the federal states, as it relies on alternative transport options in the current situation of low water levels to safeguard its supply chains.
