José Luís Carneiro, Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), stated that the Government is only "halfway" to what is necessary for the PS to consider the State Budget. According to Carneiro, the Prime Minister's public statement on the pension system was fundamental, but there is still more to be done before assessing the Budget.

Carneiro mentioned that four conditions were put forth by the PS for the State Budget proposal. Of these, the Government has already assured two: the maintenance of the current pension system during this legislature and the completion of ongoing works after the end of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

The Socialist leader underscored the importance of the Government addressing other political issues that directly affect people's lives. This aspect was highlighted as crucial before the PS proceeds to evaluate the State Budget proposal.

The need for answers from the Government to these questions emerges as a central point in Carneiro's stance regarding the approval of the Budget. He indicated that clarity on these issues would help the PS evaluate the budgetary proposal more thoroughly.

In the current context, the relationship between the PS and the Government appears to depend on resolving these political uncertainties. Carneiro emphasized that the importance of these answers is vital for trust in collaboration between the parties.

The PS's position on the State Budget and the conditions deemed necessary from its perspective remains a relevant issue in the current political landscape, reflecting the complexity of ongoing negotiations. Carneiro hopes that the Government not only responds to his demands but also actively participates in addressing other societal issues.
