The Indian government has officially announced that the Census 2027 will include 40 questions, which for the first time will enumerate caste details, excluding only Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. This decision marks a significant change in the data collection process in Independent India, according to The Hindu.

The second phase of the Census is set to commence on September 1 in snow-bound areas, as reported by Hindustan Times. This phase will also include inquiries about COVID-19 vaccinations, bank accounts, Aadhaar numbers, and passport information, as outlined in the government's notification.

The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs had approved the inclusion of caste enumeration on April 30 of the previous year, as noted by Hindustan Times. This development is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of various demographic factors across the country.
