Ceuta's President Proposes to 'Confin' Migrants Awaiting Expulsion
Juan Jesús Vivas, president of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, has suggested restricting the movements of migrants present in the territory while awaiting their expulsion.
On Monday, Juan Jesús Vivas expressed his intention to 'confin' migrants in Ceuta, calling for a restriction of their freedom of movement until their expulsion. This statement comes after a migration crisis, during which the Madrid government reported the arrival of 72,000 people from Morocco.
According to Le Figaro, a majority of these migrants, estimated at 70,000, have returned swiftly, but political discussions are ongoing regarding the fate of those who arrived illegally, either on foot or by swimming.
The authorities in Ceuta are concerned about managing the migrants who remain in the territory, as debates on immigration policy intensify within the Spanish government.
