Ceuta seeks migrant detention center following massive arrivals

Juan Vivas, the mayor of Ceuta, has expressed his intention to establish a detention center for foreign migrants currently residing in the Spanish enclave. This call comes in response to the recent wave of migration, during which tens of thousands of people reached the city by sea or by breaching the border fences.

According to various sources, there are currently between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants in Ceuta. Vivas highlights the significant challenge this situation poses for local authorities. The mayor argues that a detention center is essential to bring order to the current circumstances.

The recent migration crisis has sparked substantial outrage, especially following the loss of dozens of lives during the crossing to Ceuta.
