Chega's proposal for CPI into Luís Neves rejected, but new proposal advances
After the rejection of the initial CPI proposal regarding Luís Neves, Chega plans to present a new offer to investigate the former director of the Judiciary Police.
The President of the Assembly of the Republic rejected Chega's proposal for the establishment of a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) into Luís Neves. The decision was communicated after analyzing the proposal submitted by André Ventura, the leader of Chega.
Despite the rejection, a similar proposal from Juntos pelo Povo (JPP), which also aimed to investigate Neves, was accepted. The JPP advocated the need for an inquiry to clarify Luís Neves's actions while he was in charge of the Judiciary Police.
In response to the rejection of his proposal, André Ventura openly criticized the President of the Assembly of the Republic, accusing him of defending 'the corruption of the system.'
In statements to reporters, Ventura expressed his dissatisfaction and the determination of Chega to continue pressing for an inquiry.
Following these events, Ventura announced that Chega would advance with a new CPI proposal. According to reports, this new proposal will include suggested changes made during the meeting between the Chega leader and the President of the Assembly of the Republic.
The announcement of the new proposal was made at a press conference, where Ventura reaffirmed Chega's intention to investigate Luís Neves's actions and how his interim decisions within the Judiciary Police could have significant impacts on the country's judicial system.
The Prime Minister, in a different context, commented on forecasts for a new fiscal surplus but did not address Chega's CPI proposal or the accusations directed at the President of the Assembly of the Republic.
