Construction starts on new cycling and walking bridge in Ekeren
Work on the Frans Palinckx Bridge in Ekeren has begun and is set to be completed by 2029, affecting train services.

In Ekeren, work has begun on a new cycling and walking bridge, known as the Frans Palinckx Bridge. This bridge will connect the center of Ekeren with the neighborhoods of Donk and Oude Landen, and links to cycling route F14.
According to reports, the bridge is intended to create a smoother connection to Antwerp for cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge will also cross the L12 railway line, meaning that some weekends will see train services suspended during construction.
The first cyclists and pedestrians are expected to use the bridge by the end of 2028. The construction of this bridge is part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure in the region and strengthen cycling connections.
Initial work started on Monday, August 17. The project development stems from previous plans to optimize traffic conditions in and around Ekeren.
