Danish pupils required to defend essays orally to combat AI cheating

The Danish government has announced that pupils aged 16 to 19 at upper secondary school, known as gymnasiet, will be required to orally defend their written essays. This initiative aims to address the growing concerns surrounding cheating facilitated by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

In addition to the oral defense requirement, students will be encouraged to complete written assignments at school under controlled conditions. This includes the monitoring of their computer screens to ensure integrity during the writing process.
