Fuel prices continue to rise, with diesel exceeding €2.20 per liter on highways, while the cost on regular roads stands at €2.130. Gasoline prices are also increasing, with a price of €2.010 on normal roads and €2.087 on highways.

The government has decided to extend the €0.17 excise discount on diesel, initially set for just one day, until August 26. This measure was signed by Minister Giorgetti and is activated through a mobile excise mechanism that utilizes the VAT surplus.

Other measures to address rising fuel costs are currently being studied. The Italian government has proposed, alongside other states, the introduction of a tax on the windfall profits of energy companies as part of discussions on policies to mitigate fuel costs.

During the weekend of counter-traffic, consumers are noticing significant differences in fuel prices between regular roads and highways, raising concerns about transport costs for travelers.

The current pricing situation could further influence political debate, particularly regarding fiscal practices and support for families affected by rising energy costs.
