The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, stated in a recent announcement that Portugal should aspire to achieve a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita equal to the European average.

Castro Almeida emphasized the importance of changing the country's economic paradigm, which has been characterized by modest growth over the years. This change would allow Portugal to converge more rapidly with the more prosperous economies of the European Union.

Currently, Portugal's GDP per capita represents only 80% of the European average, which, according to the minister, is a situation that needs to be addressed. The aim is to improve this economic indicator through new policies and development strategies.

The minister did not specify the concrete measures that will be implemented to reach this goal, but he stressed the need for a joint effort between the government and the private sector to transform the Portuguese economy.

Castro Almeida's statement has echoed through various media outlets, highlighting the urgency for a structural change in the national economy to ensure greater growth and improved well-being for the population.
