On Friday, an explosion occurred at a military base in Viacha, a city in western Bolivia, resulting in at least 10 deaths and 62 injuries, according to local authorities. The incident unfolded around 2:30 PM.

The explosion took place in an area designated for storing pyrotechnic materials. While the exact cause of the explosion has not been confirmed, officials indicated that it originated from the defense ministry's stockpile of fireworks.

Local health director Rita Nebraska mentioned in a television report that between 10 and 15 individuals were initially believed to be missing following the explosion. However, the number of victims and injured has been updated to reflect current estimates.

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the site to assist the injured and conduct search efforts. The situation has prompted reactions from various local officials and members of the community, expressing concern about the safety protocols at the military base.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blast, aiming to determine the precise cause and prevent future incidents.
