Argentine President Javier Milei announced on Thursday sanctions against companies that exploit natural resources in the Falkland Islands, which have been controlled by the United Kingdom since 1883. The measures aim to prohibit companies, directly or indirectly involved, from operating in the islands without Argentine authorization.

Milei stated that he will sign a decree that will impose sanctions not only on the companies but also on the shareholders, executives, and suppliers associated with these companies operating in the Falklands. This initiative underscores the Argentine government's assertive stance regarding the disputed territory.

In addition to the sanctions, the Argentine President announced the construction of a military base at one of the closest continental points to the Falkland archipelago. This measure is seen as a way to reinforce Argentina's military presence in the region.

Milei, citing and praising former U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighted what he considers 'favorable winds of change' regarding Argentina's claim to sovereignty over the Falklands. This statement reflects the government's intention to reignite the debate over the ownership of the islands.

International reactions and the impact of the sanctions on companies have been the subject of discussion, but so far, there has been no official response from the British government regarding Milei's statements.
