Javier Milei, President of Argentina, spoke on Wednesday before the UN General Assembly in New York, where he highlighted the national claim over the Falkland Islands. Reports indicate that his speech focused on the importance of Argentine sovereignty over the islands in the context of growing diplomatic tension with the United Kingdom.

This meeting at the UN came after comments from British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who mentioned the Falklands dispute in his address. Milei referenced that the issue of the Falklands is a national cause for Argentina, stressing the relevance of the topic before the international community.

During his address, Milei not only reaffirmed Argentina's claim to the Falklands but also criticized the current functioning of the UN. He expressed his disillusionment with the organization, calling it 'useless' due to the lack of mechanisms to enforce its resolutions, raising concerns about its effectiveness.

Prior to his speech, the Argentine Chancellor reportedly responded to Burnham's remarks by stating that the British strategy has historically been to ignore Argentina's claim. This set a confrontational tone in the lead-up to the General Assembly.

The presentation was delayed by several minutes, and it was anticipated that Milei might also address other topics related to the development of artificial intelligence, although the main focus remained on the Falklands. This underscores the importance of the issue for Argentina's international agenda.

Milei's participation at the UN occurs within the context of Argentina Week in Paris, where he has also criticized the political and economic direction of Europe in previous interviews, something that was reflected in his messages at the UN regarding international cooperation.
