Federacciai submits expression of interest for former Ilva site
Federacciai and 14 member companies have made a proposal for the plants, excluding the hot area in Taranto.
Federacciai, the federation of Italian steel companies, has submitted an expression of interest for the former Ilva. The proposal has been signed by 14 companies affiliated with the federation.
The expression of interest covers all the facilities of the former Ilva, except for the hot area in Taranto. The latter is currently subject to a halt ordered by the Court of Appeal in Milan due to high emissions and the presence of asbestos.
According to reports from Sky TG24, the proposal signed by Federacciai and the 14 companies aims to reactivate the facilities, focusing on sustainability and safety.
The hot area of the Taranto site, currently excluded, is raising concerns over ongoing environmental issues. However, Federacciai's consortium appears to want to concentrate its efforts on other plants.
Rai News added that the submission of the expression of interest by Federacciai marks a new phase for the Italian steel sector and directly challenges the Indian giant Jindal in the market.
