Fire in Las Hurdes (Cáceres) prompts evacuations and emergency deployment
A forest fire in Pinofranqueado has led to the evacuation of residents and the deployment of the UME in the Las Hurdes region.

A fire has broken out in the Las Hurdes region, specifically in Pinofranqueado, according to reports from local sources. Early in the afternoon, the Junta de Extremadura activated operational situation 1 of the Special Civil Protection Plan for Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura (Infocaex) due to the potential impact on homes. However, the situation quickly deteriorated, leading to the declaration of level 2 of the Infocaex at 4:30 PM.
As a result of the fire's magnitude, around 700 residents from several towns, including Horcajo, Avellanar, Erías, Castillo, Cerezal, El Gasco, Martínlandrán, La Fragosa, and Robledo, have been evacuated. This evacuation was conducted as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of residents in the affected area.
The Junta de Extremadura has mobilized the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to assist in extinguishing the fire. In total, over one hundred ground personnel and around twenty aerial units are working to contain the blaze, which has exhibited virulent characteristics.

The fire has been classified as 'convective,' indicating that it has generated its own meteorology, including storm clouds and lightning, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This natural phenomenon, known as pyrocumulonimbus, has been forming in the region due to the intense heat of the fire.
Weather conditions have complicated firefighting efforts as the blaze has created an unstable environment with high winds and temperatures. These factors have hindered the progress of emergency teams trying to control the situation.
Meteorological analysis indicates that the formation of storm clouds would not have occurred without the fire's influence, emphasizing the severity of this incident. Authorities continue to work to contain the fire and ensure the safety of the affected population.
