In the final first-round matches of the DFB-Pokal, Bundesliga teams Hamburger SV and 1. FC Köln solidified their favorites' status and advanced to the second round. The second-division team VfL Wolfsburg also qualified for the next round, increasing the total number of representatives from both leagues in the competition.

These outcomes have been noted in various reports, with emphasis on the fact that the performances of the Bundesliga teams were not surprising. While some believe the clubs confirmed their status with ease, others reported strong performances from all participants.
