French and Spanish Compete to Supply Trains to CP
Alstom and Talgo are competing to provide CP with high-speed trains featuring 500 seats.
The Portuguese National Railway Company (CP) launched a tender in May for the acquisition of 12 high-speed trains. So far, only two companies have registered in this pre-qualification phase: the French company Alstom and the Spanish company Talgo. Both competitors are now expected to develop concrete proposals to meet the tender requirements.
The trains must have a minimum of 500 seats and be capable of speeds of up to 300 km/h. This project aims to modernize the railway transport offer in Portugal, enhancing efficiency and increasing passenger capacity on high-speed routes.
The deadline for submitting proposals to CP is 90 days, as stipulated in the tender process. The outcome of this process could significantly impact the operation and expansion of the railway network in Portugal.
