Fuel prices continue to rise in Italy, with self-service petrol reaching €2.039 per liter. According to information from Mimit, diesel is priced at €2.147 on the road network, while the price rises to €2.221 on the highway.

These values represent a significant increase compared to previous months, bringing petrol prices to their highest levels since July 2022. The ongoing rise in fuel prices has raised concerns among consumers and the most vulnerable sectors of the economy.

To mitigate the impact of this situation, targeted measures are being considered, including possible extensions of the fuel tax cuts. These measures aim to particularly support low-income earners and the transportation sector.

A mini-extension of the tax cut has been proposed, expected to last between 4 and 5 days. This measure is intended as a temporary solution ahead of a Council of Ministers meeting scheduled for next week.

Reportedly, the extension of the tax cut would be financed through an increase in fuel taxes, resulting in a rise in the retail price to consumers. The specific modalities of this intervention remain to be defined.
