The government has announced an increase in the cap for medical deductibles, now set at 140 euros per year, up from 100 euros. This decision follows an initial proposal to double the cap to 200 euros. According to reports from several sources, this new measure aims to account for cumulative inflation since 2005.

Health Minister Stéphanie Rist stated that the amount of 140 euros was chosen after discarding the proposed doubling. The new cap will take effect through a decree, the details of which are still to be finalized according to official statements.

Insured individuals will therefore be required to pay an average of 10 euros more per year. This slight increase is presented as a necessary adjustment to reflect economic developments and changes in the healthcare sector.

The draft decree has been confirmed by spokespeople from the Ministry of Health, who cited the need for a regular reevaluation of the amounts for medical deductibles in the future.

This 40% increase has sparked varied reactions among the public and healthcare professionals, with some highlighting the impact on insured individuals' finances in the face of persistent inflation.

The executive continues to defend this decision by emphasizing the consideration of economic fluctuations while insisting on the need for a balanced healthcare system.
