The INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties in India, held a mock impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at a rally in Ramlila Maidan, Delhi, on November 1. The symbolic event was organized to protest against perceived electoral irregularities and alleged misconduct by the Election Commission.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the Congress party, articulated six charges against Gyanesh Kumar during the event. These charges included facilitating vote theft, deleting over 13 crore voter names, and making unauthorized changes to electoral forms without parliamentary oversight. Kharge accused Kumar of being part of a conspiracy orchestrated by the ruling BJP government.

Amit Shah, addressing a separate party event in Lucknow, challenged opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav to a parliamentary discussion on these issues. He claimed that the BJP had nothing to hide and was ready for a dialogue in a special parliamentary session.

The mock impeachment event saw participation from around 250 opposition MPs. Kharge demanded the removal of Kumar and called for an end to the Special Identification Registration (SIR) exercise, which he viewed as detrimental to the democratic process.

Traffic management in Delhi was significantly impacted due to the rally, with the Delhi Traffic Police implementing restrictions on multiple roads and deploying nearly 350 personnel and 100 home guards in the vicinity of Ramlila Maidan.

The event concluded with further demands from the opposition, including a treason case against the Chief Election Commissioner. The BJP responded to the mock impeachment by criticizing Gandhi, suggesting that he was struggling to win elections in reality.
