Ecuadorian diplomat Ivonne A-Baki has been officially nominated as a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, according to documents released on Tuesday.

The nomination of Ivonne A-Baki was made by the government of Tonga, as reported by the President of the UN General Assembly.

Reports indicate that the Security Council has already held an "informal vote" to discuss the future successor to Guterres, although details about the outcome of this vote have not yet been made public.

A-Baki is a diplomat with a significant career, and her nomination represents a new opportunity for female leadership in international institutions.

The development of this selection process will be closely monitored by the international community as other candidacies emerge and the debate about the future direction of the UN continues.
