The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly is taking place in New York from September 21 to 28. This event has attracted nearly 130 heads of state and government, as well as other high-level representatives, who will discuss a range of global issues.

Among the attendees, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan has arrived to present his country's position on regional and global security. His office announced that he is scheduled to address the assembly on September 25, where the Gulf conflict is anticipated to be a key topic of discussion.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas to emphasize the significance of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) status for Pakistan's trade relations with the European Union. This meeting occurred on the sidelines of the UNGA.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres is also expected to play a central role in this session, which marks his final General Assembly before stepping down. Tensions remain apparent, particularly related to ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as the global body faces significant divisions.

Concurrently, leaders from various nations are urged to address pressing global issues, including trade, economic cooperation, and the governance of artificial intelligence. Kenya's President William Ruto called for the UN to be central in discussions about AI governance as his country begins a public engagement exercise regarding this topic.

As the high-level general debate commences, numerous leaders are preparing to outline their countries' stances and propose solutions to the challenges facing the international community. Events like the UNGA serve as crucial platforms for diplomacy and dialogue among nations.
