During the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Maureen Koster finished sixth in the 5,000 meters on Tuesday. Koster led for much of the race but was unable to secure a podium finish, missing out on a medal.

Elvis Afrifa also came close to winning a medal in the 100 meters. The Dutch sprinter crossed the finish line in 10.22 seconds, just three hundredths of a second short of the bronze. Koster's performance in the 5,000 meters followed Afrifa's sprint, which took place earlier in the evening. Afrifa completed his race after an impressive semi-final, where he finished second in a time of 10.25 seconds.

The European Athletics Championships continue with more exciting events. The third day of the event offers separate opportunities for other athletes to qualify for the next rounds in their disciplines.
