Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) showed a black screen during a news program shortly before the state election in Saxony-Anhalt. This occurred with a statement that 'this could happen', underscored by a voiceover. The action was interpreted as a warning about the potential consequences of an AfD (Alternative for Germany) takeover of the government.

In relation to the political developments, researchers from the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Halle (IWH) expressed concerns. They warned that a state government led by the AfD could significantly hinder economic growth in Saxony-Anhalt. According to Reint Gropp, the head of the institute, the party's anti-foreigner rhetoric could already have negative impacts on the economy.

In Magdeburg, many people with a migration background closed their businesses on that day as a sign of their concern. This measure was interpreted as an expression of worry about a possible AfD government.

The researchers' warnings indicate that without migration, economic growth in Saxony-Anhalt would decline. This was also cited in a preliminary report by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The events coincide with the upcoming state election, intensifying public discussion about the possible implications of an AfD-led government. It remains to be seen how voters will decide and what effects this could have on societal and economic development in Saxony-Anhalt.
