Mothers for the Camp demand transfer of Christmas Market in Porto
Mothers for the Camp have requested the Christmas Market be moved to Praça do Município, acknowledging its importance to the city.

The group Mothers for the Camp advocated for relocating the Christmas Market to Praça do Município, in an open letter addressed to the mayor, Carlos Moedas. This appeal highlights the need for a 'more suitable alternative' regarding the market's current location.
In the same vein, the Popular Assembly of the Camp for Housing in Porto expressed their refusal to vacate Praça D. João I to facilitate the market. The group's decision was made in response to an email from the Porto City Hall, which suggested holding 'Christmas events' in the area.
The protesters stated that they do not intend to abandon Praça D. João I, deeming the municipality's request unacceptable. The spokesperson for the Camp criticized the city hall's intention to promote the market in the square where they are situated.

Moreover, the Popular Assembly of the Camp described the government's willingness to negotiate as a 'facade', indicating a lack of trust in the sincerity of the proposals. This stance was reaffirmed on the same day that the municipal suggestion was rejected.
The Christmas Market, which takes place annually, is recognized by the group as an important event for the city of Porto, emphasizing that they will seek to find a solution that does not involve their departure.
The debate regarding the location of the Christmas Market raises questions about the coexistence of festive events and permanent occupations, reflecting tensions between commercial needs and social demands.
