NASA Launches Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope for Cosmic Exploration
The $4.3 billion Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope embarks on a mission to study dark matter, dark energy, and exoplanets.

NASA successfully launched the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope from Florida, marking a significant step in astronomical research. This telescope, which cost $4.3 billion, is equipped with 300-megapixel imaging capabilities.
The primary objectives of the Roman Space Telescope include probing dark energy and dark matter, as well as identifying tens of thousands of exoplanets. It aims to gather data that could enhance our understanding of these mysterious cosmic phenomena.
After overcoming funding challenges and undergoing a name change, the telescope is set to perform an unprecedented survey of the universe. It will embark on a three-month journey of approximately one million miles to its designated orbit at the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point (L2), situated beyond the Moon.

From this strategic position, the telescope will have a broad field of view, allowing it to map over two billion galaxies and conduct in-depth studies of gravitational effects in the universe.
The Roman Space Telescope is a repurposed spy satellite that has been converted for advanced astronomical use, evidencing a unique application of technology originally designed for different purposes.
