Negeri Sembilan Ruler Revokes Executive Council Appointments Amid Conflict
The Negeri Sembilan ruler has dismissed the state executive council for breaching their oaths, leading to a standoff with the chief minister.

On September 21, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, revoked the appointments of the state executive council members. A statement from the palace indicated that the members had violated their oaths of office as well as their allegiance to the ruler.
In response to the sacking, Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim claimed that there was no necessity to propose a new line-up of executive council members, asserting that the current council remains valid. This stance has intensified the existing tensions between the royal and state governments, following a recent disputed attempt by council members to remove the ruler.
The situation escalated into a constitutional dispute, as the chief minister's rejection of the ruler’s decision has put the state government and the palace at odds. This conflict has historical precedence, having previously resulted in the fall of a government and a snap election in the state.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Istana in Negeri Sembilan for a meeting with the ruler on the same day, suggesting developments regarding the royal crisis are ongoing. Details of the meeting remain scant, but it is a critical moment in the state's political landscape.
There was initial confusion regarding attendance, as Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied that he or the menteri besar were summoned for an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar. Zahid's statement contradicts earlier reports about a planned meeting with the prime minister and the ruler.
The political dynamics in Negeri Sembilan are under close scrutiny, as the ramifications of the ruler's actions could impact the stability of the state government and its relationship with the monarchy. Stakeholders in both the palace and the executive council await further developments.
