The Negeri Sembilan executive council has declared that Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar is the new Yang Dipertuan Besar of the state. This announcement comes amid ongoing disputes regarding the status of Tuanku Muhriz, the previous ruler.

In response, the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang Negeri Sembilan (DKU) has accused the executive council of treason and attempting a coup against Tuanku Muhriz. DKU representatives have reaffirmed their belief that Tuanku Muhriz remains the legitimate Yamtuan.

Following the announcement by the executive council, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim instructed the state secretary to proceed with the official gazetting of Tuanku Muhriz’s removal, despite opposition from the DKU.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has called for council members to resign if they no longer recognize Tuanku Muhriz, noting that they were sworn into office in front of him earlier this year.

In a related statement, the executive council of the youth and sports committee rejected Loke’s call for resignations, arguing that he should not question their positions amid the ongoing dispute.

Legal opinions state that the DKU does not have the authority to declare the status of the ruler. The Attorney General’s Chambers indicated that the executive council’s decision does not hold legal weight, complicating the situation further.
